Stress can be viewed as demands (real or imagined) that require a coping mechanism. Good stress (Eustress) can motivate us to perform higher and with more vigor but prolonged states of bad stress (Distress) are harmful to our performance, relationship with colleagues and our health.

When in distress a body becomes fragmented and out of balance.

Our posture is our bodies structural and functional expression of the nervous system and all other related systems. It is our bodies way of responding to our daily challenges, stresses and experiences. (DellaGrotte, June/July, 2003 Massage and Bodywork) Our bodies systems are innately designed to be in a state of balance and when giving the opportunity through awareness and touch will adjust to this natural state of equilibrium.

Post traumatic stress disorder-results from a traumatic life experience causing entrapped pain patterns in the body. The patterns can be physiological, structural and emotional (flight/fight mode) when not resolved. The unresolved residue can surface from seemingly unrelated stimuli. The brain looses the capacity to sort between the emotional memory of past trauma and current experience. When this happens we are stripped of the bodies natural recovery process and instead are adding additional layers of repression.

Even if it is not real trauma being experienced the body will physically and emotional enter the same state as if experiencing the exact trauma.

Somatic bodywork and energy alignment can repattern the PTSD invoking the bodies inherent ability to restore itself.
